1. Definition

A Load Bank is a controllable artificial load device. It replaces actual electrical loads to perform load testing, performance verification and calibration for generators, UPS, inverters and batteries. It converts electrical energy into heat (or consumes reactive power) to accurately simulate real-site load operating conditions.

2. Working Principle

  • Resistive Type (Most Common): Electric current passes through power resistors and converts energy into heat via Joule effect, cooled by forced air or water cooling; Power Factor = 1.0.
  • Inductive Type: Inductive coils consume reactive power to simulate motor and transformer loads with lagging power factor.
  • Capacitive Type: Capacitors provide capacitive reactive power for power compensation and filtering simulation with 超前 leading power factor.
  • Combined RLC Type: Integrated resistive, inductive and capacitive loads with adjustable power factor (0.1–1.0) to simulate complex working conditions.

3. Main Structure

  • Load components: Resistor / inductor / capacitor modules
  • Control system: Manual / PLC / remote control, step & continuous load adjustment
  • Measuring instruments: Voltage, current, frequency, power, power factor and temperature monitoring
  • Cooling system: Forced air cooling (portable type) / water cooling (high power & long-time operation)

5. Main Applications

    Full-load & step load transient test; verify frequency and voltage transient response; long-term full-load endurance test for temperature rise, fuel consumption and protection setting calibration; paralleling and load sharing test.

    Power switching, backup duration, load capacity and harmonic suppression performance test.
  3. Battery & Energy Storage Test
    Capacity test, discharge curve measurement, internal resistance analysis and BMS protection verification.
  4. Offshore & Explosion-proof Application
  5. Explosion-proof load bank with Ex'e, Zone 2, IIA T3, IP65 for outdoor skid-mounted EDG/MTG regular load maintenance, avoiding carbon deposition and wet cylinder caused by no-load or light-load operation.

    Energy dissipation for wind & PV inverter, grid adaptability test.
